Bugs, dollars…Climbing the ladder…
Bugs, dollars…And their ties
We can – and generally do explain how quickly bacteria can reproduce to those catastrophic levels and most importantly how critical it is to use our sanitizer correctly.
For example, we probably explain how, if food debris – or even its’ film isn’t removed, a disinfectant solution can’t actually contact the food prep surface. Or how if the correctly diluted sanitizer isn’t permitted to remain on the surface for the required dwell time, it may not kill the all the microbes living on it.
But as important as all that is, maybe most critical thing to emphasize is the absolutely devastating financial effect an outbreak that sickens even one patron can have. In today’s social media world all it takes is one diner on Yelp who claims to have gotten food poisoning from that eatery and it’s game on.
The dollar effect of that complaint will be orders of magnitude greater than the cost of making certain that things are really clean and sanitized in the first place.
When it comes to selling our wares and services, we generally want to dwell on the positives but sometimes the reality is that the negative side of things has to be addressed to get the point across.
Climbing the ladder…And taking steps
We’re all familiar with the saying that effort alone can’t ensure success. But we also know that in the absence of effort failure is virtually guaranteed.
Simply stated, the first step in accomplishing great and even the small things is to simply start.
Ask pretty much any manager what they most values in team members and you’re likely to hear something like, “Tackling what I ask of them and especially doing it quickly.”
It’s amazing how much that simple idea of taking the first step can mean. It’s not unlike the son who’s graduating college and asks his dad about finding a career. His dad replies, “First get a job. Then maybe a career will find you”.
In our case, we have the job. But maybe what’s standing between the position we have and the one that’s further up the ladder; is how quickly we undertake our everyday duties as well as tackling those new tasks asked of us.
